I'm Joanne. I'm a professional accredited registered hypnotherapist offering one-to-one therapy and have over fourteen years experience in helping people feel better about themselves.

In a relaxed state you're able to access your subconscious mind and release negative thought patterns and feelings from the past which are currently compelling you to behave in ways that are unhelpful to you. Rather than subconsciously focusing on the cause of your problems, having released them you're then able to be present in the here and now, find new solutions of your choice, and put them into effect.

I'm also a fully qualified Inner Child Therapist and can help you to feel better about yourself by facilitating the change of unwanted habits and negative unhelpful beliefs and feelings.

By healing our past we are healing our future
In 2004 two psychologists, Segerstrom and Miller from the University of Kentucky, established that nearly all diseases are caused by stress. More recently Bruce Lipton (molecular biologist and former Stanford University biology lecturer) points out in his book 'The Biology of Belief' that 95% of illness comes from stress - and 100% of stress comes from faulty beliefs.

Ever since prehistoric times, the stress response has been a mechanism that our bodies have used to help us cope with danger. As soon as we're aware that something is threatening us, whether it's real or imagined, our brain sends messages to our nervous system to either get ready to stand and fight, or run away. This response, known as 'fight or flight' has been vital to our survival (see Health Matters).

Unfortunately, whereas in Stone Age times we would usually have time to recover from the life or death encounters that triggered the response, in the modern world we're confronted with a continuous stream of stressors that our bodies perceive as threats and react to accordingly. Today - often exasperated by negative beliefs, i.e.I'm not good enough, I have to be perfect to be loved, I have to please/look after other people, I'm a failure, etc. - there's a lot of stuff that poses a threat, these could include financial pressures, overwork, conflicting priorities, friends and family to keep happy, and the feeling of defeat when, at the end of the day, not everything is ticked off the to-do list.
