Counselling/Psychotherapy
Counselling is an interactive process in which you and I work together
in a safe and confidential setting. Problems and difficulties can arise
at various stages throughout our lifespan as a result of environmental
or other influences. These can include: social problems, bullying, harassment
at work, job loss, developmental crisis, chronic illness, rape and assault,
etc. Sometimes these are problems which have become unmanageable, while
at other times they may simply present as feelings of dissatisfaction,
lack of motivation or direction, or unhappiness with life in general.
Talking confidentially and without being judged or criticized allows you
explore various aspects of your life, your feelings, your thoughts and
related behaviours. You can discuss your fears and anxieties and have
an opportunity to explore and express any bottled up feelings such as
anger, anxiety, loneliness, sadness or grief. From a new understanding
about yourself and your life situations you can begin to make decisions
about achieving a more satisfying life.
In Psychotherapy we look at your more deep seated personal issues and
how your past experiences and current behaviour can be linked. Outdated
limiting beliefs from childhood experiences can hold us back on our pathway
of self-acceptance which is why Inner Child Therapy is so important. Unresolved
problems which stem from the past can often cause feelings of mental or
even physical exhaustion. These include sexual, emotional or physical
abuse, or may be related to experiences of loss or abandonment.
Issues from the past may also cause lack of confidence, feelings of worthlessness,
inability to enjoy life, deeply-felt grievances or an ongoing pattern
of destructive relationships. Exploring your past can help to increase
your awareness of patterns and negative habits and leads to a more creative
self understanding.
As an integrative therapist I utilise a wide range of skills and work
in a way that suits your particular needs, rather than working within
the parameters of a particular therapeutic model.
As a Member of the National Council of Psychotherapists (NCP) and
an individual member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy
(BACP) I adhere to their strict codes of practice.
