Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is about returning the mind, body and feelings to a state of balance and harmony so you are not limited by negative emotions.

EFT was developed in the United States by Gary Craig in the 1990s, it has its roots in ancient Chinese medicine, the modern science of Applied Kinesiology, and Psychology. The basic theory is that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system.

EFT is a Meridian Energy Therapy (MET), like acupuncture it works with the human energy system which circulates through your body and mind in channels/meridians. Instead of needles, with EFT you tap (or lightly massage) specific points to stimulate the flow of energy through the meridians. As you tap on a point, neuro-receptors under the skin convert the pressure to an electrical impulse that is transmitted to the brain.

The simple procedure involves the following:
      • we discuss a specific issue and you qualify your feelings on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 highest).
      • we verbalise the issue in a short sentence
      • I show you points on your face and upper body and a few eye movements
      • I guide you to tap on the points in a specific sequence using the short sentence to focus your mind on the issue
      • at the end of the procedure I ask you are to re-evaluate your feelings on the scale of 1 to 10
      • this procedure is repeated bringing the intensity of your feelings down each time until full balance is restored

These special techniques work to create a free flow of ’chi’ or energy in the body’s energy system. EFT is a mind/body healing technique because it combines the physical effects of Meridian Treatments with the mental effects of focussing on the negative issue at the same time.

Deep rooted behaviours, beliefs or traumas will necessarily take longer to eliminate to enable all aspects of the problem to be released and desensitized.

EFT is a very effective yet gentle method of directly balancing the body’s energy system for the feelings that you want to change without you having to re-live past events.

EFT can be used on its own, or before and during Hypnotherapy, or Inner Child Therapy.
